Rebecca Taylor Fall 2011

What: TBF attended the Rebecca Taylor Fall 2011 Fashion Show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

What They Say: The Rebecca Taylor collection is best known for providing the eternally evolving modern girl with fresh, feminine clothing to compliment and refine her individual sense of style. Playful use of color, prints and textures in silhouettes that enhance a spirited lifestyle have cultivated a vast celebrity clientele to include Reese Witherspoon, Katherine Heigl, Rachel Bilson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicole Richie, and Vanessa Hudgens, to name a few.

What We Say: Two words – Grandma Chic. Don’t be scared off, that’s a good thing. With floral fabrics being a huge trend at the moment, we saw lots of items in Rebecca Taylor’s show that resembled something a granny might wear, but with a younger, sexier spin. Lots of the dresses and blouses had an 80’s vibe as well—they were flowy with lots of body coverage. The new sexy is no longer skin bearing necessarily, but fabric that covers your curves in just the right way. At least that’s what Rebecca is telling us here, and we’re picking up what she’s dropping down.

Also in Rebecca’s Fall 2011 line, there were subtle furs and ruffles, but nothing that takes away from the understated femininity of the overall collection. We have to say – it was thoroughly enjoyable to watch her color combinations walk down the runway. Models donned items with seemingly contrasting colors that actually worked. This show definitely taught us that things don’t have to match, they just have to work well together.

We think Rebecca Taylor is going to be a huge inspiration for more mass-market designers mostly because her looks are totally wearable and really age-versatile. Keep your eye out for looks like these in stores.
