Audi has lifted the
covers off its gleaming new convertible, the R8 GT Spyder. The new
soft-top Spyder model was unveiled June 3 and production is limited to just 333
units, each carrying a tag with its individual number on the gear lever
knob.
The revamped R8
is 85kg lighter than the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, thanks in part to the soft-top and the addition of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced polymer body
parts. Its 5.2-liter, direct-injection V10 engine is based around a
lithe, aluminium space-frame chassis weighing just 214kg.
The R8 GT Spyder also boasts a sleeker, sportier aesthetic,
with a dual-lip front spoiler, carbon fiber winglets on the front bumper, curved
tailpipes, a larger rear diffuser and glowing LED taillights.
To debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September,
the new Spyder is listed with a base price of €207,800 (US$300,000) in Germany.
Buyers in this part of the globe will have to wait for further pricing details
to emerge, although you can always register
your interest online or at a dealership and pre-order this summer.
