Some of the most recognizable dresses worn by the late,
beloved Princess Diana will be put under the hammer this week by Canadian
auction house Waddinton’s.
One of the star lots include the midnight blue dinner dress she wore to a State dinner at the White House in Washington. Diana wore it in 1985 to a dinner hosted by then American President, Ronald Reagan. The Edwardian era-inspired gown by Victor Edelstein is made of silk velvet and created specially for the event.
Another highlight of the auction is a V-necked long dress, embellished with deep green sequins and slit to the knee. Designed by Jacob Schaepfer for the Chelsea Design Company, London, the shimmering ruched creation, worth an estimated $200,000, was worn to a state occasion in Vienna in 1986 and a film premiere in 1993.
The dresses were part of a collection belonging to Floridian Maureen Rorech Dunkel, who bought them at a Christie’s sale in 1997, eight weeks before Lady Diana died.
