The cayman, a sleek reptilian in the alligator family, would
be proud of its automobile namesake, the Porsche Cayman R, a sporty mid-engine coupé
that has just made its debut in Singapore.
Responsive, refined and racy, the new Cayman R is lighter and
more powerful than its previous iteration, the Cayman S, and therefore quicker
and more efficient. With its specially adapted sports chassis, it provides an
even more precise driving experience than the Cayman S. Designed and engineered
with fluid driving in mind, the vehicle weight of the Cayman R was reduced by
55 kg, cutting the power-to-weight ratio of the coupé with standard manual
transmission to 3.9 kilograms per horsepower in the process.
Other features include the lightweight sports bucket seats,
which improve the driver’s side support in bends and contribute to a further
weight reduction, shaving off another 12 kg. The reduced door trim comes with
door opening straps, dispensing with the instrument cluster cover and other
superfluous trimmings, such as the cupholder.
On to the Cayman R’s aesthetics: the elongated silhouette of
the bodywork, which has been lowered by 20mm compared to the Cayman S, complements
the new vehicle’s distinctive fixed rear spoiler, silver-painted wheels and
numerous sporty accents. The exterior mirrors, in particular, are etched with “PORSCHE”
lettering on the side, and the
black-framed headlights, lateral air intakes and rear spoiler top section – in
contrasting black or silver, depending on external color – are further design
cues from classical Porsche racing cars.
