The Panerai British Classic Week, the most important yachting event in the United Kingdom and part of the ongoing Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, is set to take place this week, and will end July 23. Dozens of yachts, mainly from Northern European countries, are poised to gather in Cowes to take part in the five races that may bring them final victory, and in the spectacular Panerai Classic Round the Island Race, organised on the last Sunday along the course that in 1851 gave rise to the America’s Cup.

Every year, as a tribute to its own historic association with the sea, Officine Panerai creates a Special Edition watch specially for the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. For the 2011 edition of the circuit, Officine Panerai presents the Luminor Submersible 1950 Regatta 3 Days GMT Automatic Titanio – a 47 mm professional diver’s watch, water-resistant to 30 atmospheres (about 300 metres), fitted with a rotating bezel with a graduated scale for calculating the duration of the dive and a hand indicating the time in a second time zone.

Design features to note include the blue dial, which has the date window at 3 o’clock and the small seconds
dial at 9 o’clock. Its simple design consists essentially of hour markers
in the form of dots and bars, coated with Super-LumiNova® to ensure maximum visibility underwater. The hour and minute hands are skeletonised while that of the second time zone is black. Powered by the P.9001 automatic calibre, the Luminor Submersible 1950
