Exciting news for the arts community in Singpore: the School of the Arts (Sota) is partnering French luxury label Louis Vuitton to develop a visual arts program for its students. LV will contribute a six-figure sum to the initiative, which is expected to benefit at least 60 of Sota’s visual arts students over three years.

The program, to commence next year, will see local and international artists from a wide spectrum of genres holding seminars and workshops, which will be open to students and the public. In addition, a select group of visual arts students will get to work more closely with an invited artist and attend relevant design festivals overseas.

At a press conference announcing the partnership, Mr Jean-Baptiste Debains, President of LV Asia Pacific, also provided further details about LV’s flagship boutique at Marina Bay Sands, which is slated to open in September this year. The hotly anticipated opening is the first island Maison concept store, and will offer luxury mens- and womenswear, as well as serve as a bookstore and contemporary art gallery.  Mr Debains also said that Sota art students’work may be exhibited at Sota’s art gallery, and a space set
aside for them in LV’s upcoming store in Marina Bay Sands.

Mr Debains said Sota will be given free rein to decide who to invite and the
details of the program, and added that the company felt it would be
“more relevant to contribute to the community through such a programme”.

Sota is a pre-tertiary specialised arts school offering a six-year course for students between the ages of 13 and 18. This is LV’s first such partnership with a school in the region.
