Uniqlo Gaga T-shirts Japan Relief

What: UNIQLO has partnered with Condé Nast Japan in an effort to raise funds that will benefit the Japanese Red Cross by creating ten t-shirts designed by top celebrities including Lady Gaga, Karl Lagerfeld and Nicole Kidman.

What WWD says: The T-shirts go on sale June 25 for $19.90 and the retailer expects to donate about $1.2 million to the organization and its ongoing efforts to alleviate the impact of the earthquake in Japan in March.

Other celebrity participants include Blake Lively, Charlize Theron, Cyndi Lauper, Victoria Beckham and Orlando Bloom. The initiative is on top of the $12 million that Tadashi Yanai, chairman and chief executive officer of Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., has personally donated.

What we say: It’s nice to see people all over the world, whether celebrities or not, joining hands together to help victims of the disasters that hit Japan in March this year. According to WWD, Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. has donated over $12 million in clothes and funds immediately after the tsunami and earthquake hit. Definitely, it’s two thumbs up for Uniqlo.
