What: H&M recently announced their 2011 H&M Fashion Against AIDS initiative, launching on April 26th. It will help raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS with a unisex collection for men and women.
What They Say: Fashion Against AIDS (FAA) is an extremely important initiative for H&M and this year the collection comes with a new twist. FAA is a campaign designed to raise both funds and awareness, which has so far donated over 41 million Swedish Krona for Designers Against AIDS (DAA) and various other international HIV/AIDS projects. Because the HIV/AIDS message is as important for young women as much as it is for young men, the sporty unisex collection is for everyone to wear in their own way. The collection is available in H&M’s Divided department from 26th April and 25% of sales will be donated to youth HIV/AIDS projects around the world.
What We Say: Of course, we always love fashion that benefits a cause and this is no exception – it provides incentive to buy clothes (which we don’t need in the first place), but also makes us feel great after doing so. In terms of the clothes, we snuck a peek and they’re casual looks with versions for men and women – nothing crazy innovative but definitely wearable and cute. The prices range from about $5 to $150 so the high-end is certainly pricier than regular H&M apparel. However, this is the type of thing we can justify spending a little more because, well, instead of just benefiting our wardrobe (which is doing just fine), we’re also supporting Fashion Against AIDS.
