This year, Canali’s Autumn-Winter collection, which was shown at the recently concluded Men’s Fashion Week, hewed closely to the House’s quintessentially Italian sense of elegance, while downplaying and subverting stuffy tradition. The result was a markedly playful approach to
tailor-made clothes that was imbued with personality and irony.

Single and double-breasted overcoats in fine, warm fabrics drew inspiration from Chesterfield
or military style apparel, but displayed modern, graceful silhouettes that were rich in sophistication and style. Fabric patterns
drew on classic pin stripes and pied-de-poules, making for a very dapper, dandyish aesthetic. Suits were accessorized with pocket squares and scarves in luxe silk and
cashmere, with colorful, poetic and occasionally floral patterns.

Interspersed among the sleek grays and blues were jewel-toned glimmers of amethyst, sapphire, aquamarine
and emerald. These color accents lent an especially beautiful sheen to velvet and cashmere Shetland jackets.

The collection also included classic sportswear with a casual, self-assured vibe: a soft turtleneck was paired with a sporty jacket, and a
cotton henley shirt played down a spiffy velvet
suit. Wearable, everyday pieces, such as a padded jacket or parka, were worn over formal
suits and enlivened with lush, ribbed cashmere.

And for the evening, the elegance of a traditional tuxedo,
velvets in sumptuous shades or retro-styled silk jacquard cocktail
jackets.
