Vienna auction house WestLicht clinched a record-breaking deal with its €1.32m (US$1.9m) sale of
what is now the most expensive camera ever sold worldwide, an extremely rare Leica 0-series model.
Around
721 lots went under the hammer at the sale, breaking many global
records and becoming WestLicht’s most successful camera auction so far. Leading the sale was the extremely rare Leica 0-series from 1923. Listed
with a pre-sale estimate of €200,000, the shutter finally closed at an astonishing
€1.32m, including premium. Interestingly, the Leica 0-series sold to a private collector from Asia, making this the latest in a line of world record priced sales speaheaded by collectors in Asia.
