Women over 50 often wonder how to dress for their age. Dressing your age is important and may sometimes be challenging. The key here is to look for updated and contemporary clothes that are easy to wear, modern and that fit your lifestyle and figure. So here are a few key points that should help you look fabulous and stylish over 50:

Body type:
Avoid wearing baggy clothes as they will easily make you look 20 years older. If your body shape has changed over the years, be aware of what your new body type is and choose clothing that will flatter your new shape. Also make sure you never give into Mom jeans–those high waist, tapered legs jeans— Look for a more contemporary mid-rise fit (bellow belly button) that will flatter your shape and softly tuck in your tummy. A dark wash is always flattering, elegant and trendy. If you feel flirtatious, you can still look sexy without having to show a lot of skin. For example, a skirt that falls around the knee with a ruffled silky top should get you a lot of attention!

Accessories:
Avoid classic shawls or scarves which tend to make the entire outfit outdated. If you must wear a scarf, go for a very contemporary print in bold colors. Pick purses and shoes that are modern and reflect your personality. This is where you can really have fun with the trends, and feel fashionable without looking like you are trying too hard. Of course, avoid the old-lady like matching shoe+purse set. Lastly, go easy on the pearls or gold bling-bling. Tasteful and modern jewelry in small doses will help you look young and hip, yet appropriate.

Hair/Makeup:
An outdated hairstyle will kill any fabulous outfit! If you are over 50 and you have not changed your hair style since your 30’s or 40’s, now is the time to make an appointment with a new hairstylist who will help you modernize your look.

Finally, make sure you keep expressing your personality through your clothes. Being over 50 does not mean you’ve entered a no-fun/no-fashion zone. Keep paying attention to the trends, keep you clothes modern and you will stay stylish for decades to come!
